A Workshop on ‘Why students face problems in learning mathematics? ‘

Aiming to provide an intense training on teaching mathematics, a two-day workshop on ‘Why students face problems in learning mathematics? ‘ was conducted for Trained Graduate Teachers on July 19 and 20,2022 in auditorium of Guru Nanak Modern School Kalyanpur, Kanpur.
The workshop deliberated on the various problems which students face in learning and understanding mathematics. Approximately 70 teachers of secondary and senior secondary levels of several reputed schools of Kanpur Nagar attended the workshop. The session commenced with the motivational speech of the Principal of the school, Mr Balwinder Singh. He focused on the importance of mathematics in the life of students. He also advised all the teachers to utilise their time by attending all the session actively.
Then the renowned speakers Mr. Pramendra Singh, Vice Principal of Dr Rizvi Learner’s Academy, Jaunpur and Dr Ramesh Chandra, retired principal of Government Inter College, Faizabad, Ayodhya emphasized on the various and productive methods of teaching strategies needed for effective learning process in Mathematics. They also highlighted the problems of understanding mathematics such as:
- The way in which the topics are introduced is inappropriate.
- There is a lack of understanding of concepts.
- Lack of practice
- Students are often distracted etc.
The session was made interactive with the incorporation of entertaining games/activities on different mathematical concepts. The facilitator has a bright technical and pedagogical knowledge which benefited the teachers. The workshop was innovative, informative, constructive and interactive. At the end, vote of thanks was proposed by the coordinator of the school, Mr Vivek Awasthi.
