KSS Chess Tournament
“Every chess master was once a beginner.” – Irving Chernev
KSS Chess tournament was conducted by Guru Nanak Modern School, Kalyanpur from August 23,2022 to August 25, 2022 for grade 6th to 8th students. It aimed to provide a platform to thestudents to improve their logical thinking, analytical reasoning and problem-solving.
About 26 different schools of Kanpur participated in the tournament. The inauguration was presided over by the observer Ms. Smita Dhawan, the Principal of The Chintels School Kalyanpur; the observer of KSS Chess Tournament, Mr V Muralidharan, the principal of Army Public school cantt and Mr. Balwinder Singh, the Principal of Guru Nanak Modern School, CBSE City Coordinator of Kanpur and Unnao region, City Coordinator of National Testing Agency, State Ambassador of NISA UP and President of Kanpur Sahodaya Schools.
The spirited day began with the pleasant Prayer Song sung by the school choir.
The chief coach Mr Dileep Srivastava the secretary of Kanpur Chess Association and other arbitars- Mr Hari Saran Rastogi, Ms Kusum Sharma, Mr.Kamal Khemani and Mr. Sunny Mathew accompanied the students and encouraged them. The participants showed great enthusiasm and thoroughly enjoyed playing chess.The tournament was a tough one with all the contestants putting out their best skills. It was well managed by Ms. Bhavya Singh Chauhan, Mr. Dilip Gaur and Ms. Nishi. Finally after a tough competition, Nuture International School showed their excellence and scored 1st position. KDMA, Barra bagged 2nd position and Shree Sanatan Dharm Education Centre scored 3rd position in the competition.
The Principal of Guru Nanak Modern School, Mr. Balwinder Singh congratulated the winners and praised for the students’ efforts. The coordinator Mr. Vivek Awasthi also appreciated their skills and encouraged them. At last Ms. Preeti Grover presented vote of thanks. It was a great learning experience for the students.
